Welcome to the School of Statistics, Renmin University of China

The School of Statistics at Renmin University of China was the first department of this kind set up in China. Its history can be traced back to 1952. Now, the School has grown to be a faculty with 14 professors, 16 associate professors, 9 lecturers and 17 visitingt professors. Since the foundation of the school, more than 5,000 students have graduated. The graduates are mainly engaged in the area of statistics and risk management, working in the financial industry, information field and government departments.

Nowadays,the School of Statistics has developed to a preeminent and comprehensive center for statistics research, and the application areas cover Science, Economics and Medical  Science. The School ranks A+ in the category of statistics according to China`s Ministry of Education. The School consists of four majors: Statistics,Probability and Mathematical Statistics, Risk Management and Actuarial Science, Epidemiology and Health Statistics. There are also many other research institutes in the School, such as the Key Research Institutes for the Humanities and Social Sciences, the Applied Statistical Science Research Center, the Risk Management and Actuarial Center, the Government Statistics Research Center, etc.

The School is dedicated to promoting excellence in research and education of statistics in China, with emphasis on the integration of statistics theory and application. The research covers various fields of social science, including economic and social development, insurance and financial risk management. Moreover, the research interests have been extended to the areas of law, journalism, politics, ethics, education, psychology, bibliometrics and so on. We are devoted to interdisciplinary studies and have designed some statistical investigation and data analysis platforms to satisfy social needs.

The School of Statistics has improved the system of visiting scholars and strengthened the contact with many professionals. We have recruited a number of internationally recognized statisticians to serve as adjunct professors and visiting professors. We provide financial support for our faculties to visit other universities and attend academic conferences. In recent years, the School has successfully organized some international academic conferences such as the International Forum on Statistics and the International Symposium on Biostatistics. Through these international platforms, we can keep our pace with the most recent research findings in mathematical statistics and applied statistics.
